The training of veterinarians began at the Chuvash State Agricultural Academy at the veterinary department of the zoo-engineering faculty in 1997. In 2002, the first graduation of veterinarians took place. Based on the decision of the Academic Council of the Academy, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was created as a structural unit of the Academy.
In 2004, the Faculty of Zoological Engineering was renamed into Biotechnology.
In accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the Academy dated June 17, 2014 (minutes No. 10), by order of the rector No. 105-o dated June 25, 2014, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was transformed into the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the Chuvash State Agricultural Academy.
At the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, veterinarians are trained in full-time education:
1) specialty 05/36/01 "Veterinary Medicine", specializations:
- veterinary business;
- organization of veterinary and sanitary examination.
2) direction of training 03.36.01 "Veterinary and sanitary examination".
Training of zoo engineers is carried out in full-time and extramural forms training, direction of training 03.36.02 "Animal Science", profiles:
- technology for the production of livestock products;
- technology of production and processing of eggs and poultry meat;
- cynology.
IN last years the faculty carried out the optimization of the structure of the departments, which contributes to the improvement of the quality of educational activities.
The faculty has the most experienced scientific and pedagogical staff of teachers at the university - 11 doctors of sciences, professors and 20 candidates of sciences, associate professors, senior teachers and assistants. Classes are taught by teachers with basic higher veterinary and zootechnical education, all teachers have academic degrees and titles. Many of them have honorary titles with solid experience in practical and scientific work.
The demand in the labor market for veterinary specialists is growing from year to year. This is due to the targeted efforts of local and federal authorities aimed at improving the well-being of the agricultural sector of the economy, as well as with large investments by foreign entrepreneurs and large venture capital corporations.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Chuvash Republic - Minister agriculture Sergey Artamonov met with the rector, teachers and students of the Chuvash State Agricultural Academy. The meeting discussed the work of the information and consulting team working within the framework of the All-Russian youth project to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the village and raise awareness of the population about the possibilities of self-realization in rural areas under the name "Your business in the village is bold!"
As the rector of the academy Andrei Makushev noted, the information and consulting teams have been working for 7 years. A group of students and teachers of the Chuvash Agricultural Academy travels to the regions of the republic, in an exciting, interesting and accessible form acquaints school graduates and heads of peasant (farmer) households with a project aimed at increasing the prestige of agricultural professions, as well as information on existing measures of state support agriculture and rural development.
According to the team members, interest in the project is growing from year to year, and the number of farmers interested in participating in state support programs for agrarians is growing, by participating in which it is possible to implement projects for the development of farms.
Along with the growing interest in the project, the number of questions to the team members also grows. These issues were discussed at the meeting with the minister.
For example, in the Shumerlinsky district, a question was received from the head of a rural settlement on the implementation of the initiative budgeting program. “Why should the rural population invest their personal savings to improve living conditions in the countryside (roads, water supply systems, etc.), while urban residents don’t invest a penny to improve the city's engineering infrastructure,” he asked.
Sergei Artamonov explained that the initiative budgeting program operates not only in rural areas, but also in cities. The townspeople also implement projects for the arrangement of courtyards, the construction of children's and sports grounds, and, like the villagers, they invest in the implementation of these projects with their personal savings.
In a number of districts, as the members of the information and consulting brigade told the minister, the heads of agricultural organizations, representatives of the public raised a question about the implementation of the Agrostartup program, in particular, about the low awareness of the rural population about this program and the lack of any information support for projects that received grants.
Sergey Gennadievich recommended to talk more often on the pages of regional newspapers, on radio and television about the implemented projects, so that farmers share their experience of participating in the program and give their advice to those who want to try their hand at implementing Agrostartup projects.
During the meeting, a number of other issues were also discussed. Summing up the results, Sergey Gennadievich noted the need for more thorough preparation of the project participants so that as many residents of villages and villages as possible could get answers to all their questions regarding the development of agriculture.

In 1970, a preparatory department was opened, which played an important role in raising the general educational level of working and rural youth entering institute... So, in September 1994, the specialty "Technology of agricultural production" was opened. In the same year, training began in the specialty "Mechanization of agricultural products processing". The republic's agriculture was in dire need of specialists in veterinary medicine. Based on this need, in September 1997 the specialty “Veterinary Medicine” was opened. In 1998, training began in the specialty "Automobiles and Automotive Industry".
At the end of the 90s, for the training of veterinarians at the university, new departments were opened and the corresponding laboratories were equipped (Academic building No. 3 on Yagodny lane). In 2001, a new educational building was commissioned for training personnel in the specialty "Automobiles and Automotive Industry". On September 1, 2009, a new educational building of the Faculty of Engineering was opened.

The Agricultural Academy opened on September 1, 1931. The students studied in difficult conditions. Not enough teaching aids, exhibits, preparations, classrooms, qualified teachers. In the 1940s, the staff of the institute took part in the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition. In 1941 it was called
