VASILIEV Ivan Vasilyevich (1810s - 1870s) - an outstanding gypsy musician of the 19th century, conductor of the famous gypsy choir, singer, guitarist and composer. It was to Ivan Vasiliev, as the most talented musician, and not to his sons or other relatives, that before his death in 1848, I.O. Sokolov guides his choir. In the 50-70s. The choir became famous in Moscow for its performance of Russian songs and everyday romances in a peculiar choral manner of the Moscow gypsies. The performance of the songs was devoid of the tinge of vulgarity, which later acquired the gypsy choirs. The choir was highly appreciated by A. Ostrovsky, I. Gorbunov, Ap. Grigoriev, A. Fet and others. A.N. Ostrovsky wrote down a number of old Russian songs from Vasiliev; one of them - "A Young Girl Came Out" - was used by M. Mussorgsky in the opera "Khovanshchina" (Martha's song "A Young One Came Out"). Vasiliev was the first to introduce ensemble singing into the choir - trios and quartets. He was the author of romances and songs popular in everyday life and became the first gypsy composer whose works were published: about twenty Vasiliev's songs are known to have been published.

Historian and writer of everyday life M.I. Pylyaev, the author of the books "Old Moscow" and "Old Petersburg", wrote about the choir of I. Vasiliev: "In the fifties, Ivan Vasiliev, a pupil of Ilya Sokolov, appeared; he was a great writers, such as AN Ostrovsky, AA Grigoriev and others. During his conversation, the latter wrote his poem, which was later set to music by Ivan Vasiliev. The gypsy choirs of Moscow and Peterburg picked up this song, and she went for a walk around the world without the name of the poet, without the name of the musician-composer, losing the words and stanzas of the poetic original, acquiring new words, and became a folk gypsy and folk Russian song. Here are the words of this unpublished romance:

Two guitars outside the wall rang, whined,
Oh, my beloved motive, my old friend, are you?
It's you: I recognize your move in D minor
And your melody in frequent search.
Chimbiryak, chimbiryak, chimbiryashechki,
With blue eyes, my darlings! ..

Ivan Vasiliev himself was a good baritone, his romances at that time were a great success and were sung by everyone<...> Ivan Vasiliev's quartet singing and trio especially flourished ... "(Pyliaev MI Old Petersburg. 3rd St. Petersburg edition, AS Suvorin's edition, 1903, pp. 408-417).

MI Pylyaev's reference to Ivan Vasiliev as the author of the melody to the famous "Gypsy Hungarian" by Apollo Grigoriev is very significant, since the author's name was not disclosed in the musical literature before him. At the same time, Pyliaev, judging by his remarks about this romance as "unpublished", did not know that in 1857 "The Gypsy Hungarian" was published.

About history and further destiny of this romance the following is known:

Apollon Aleksandrovich Grigoriev - one of the brightest figures of Russian culture of the mid-19th century, poet, prose writer, translator, literary critic - was a selflessly enthusiastic guitarist and “gypsy player” (as then passionate admirers and connoisseurs of gypsy song and gypsy dance were called) ... In his youth, he learned to play the forte piano with a famous musician and teacher and played this instrument well, but later he mastered the guitar and left everything for the sake of his “seven-string girlfriend”, with whom he almost never parted and on whom he played with true skill. “He sang all evenings, - wrote Fet. - He brought real pleasure with the sincerity and skill of his singing. He actually did not sing, but, as it were, marked the musical outline of the play with a dotted line ... His repertoire was varied, but his favorite song was "Hungarian", in which the dreary revelry of lost happiness broke through ”. It was Apollon Grigoriev who composed the poems "Oh, even speak with me ..." and "Gypsy Hungarian" (both poems were written by the poet in 1857). The poet's friend, Ivan Vasiliev, was a sensitive person, able to understand and share the pain of others: when Grigoriev read him "The Gypsy Hungarian", the musician immediately became imbued with the poet's feelings. He processed the Hungarian melody and composed the famous guitar variations. So Grigoriev's "Gypsy Hungarian" became a song. Gypsy choirs began to sing it very soon. The second part of the song includes stanzas from the poem "Oh, even speak with me ...". Someone finished writing the chorus "Oh, once, again! ..", which was not in Grigoriev's poems. On the basis of this new "Hungarian" dance began to develop, a gypsy dance, which we simply call "Gypsy". Subsequently, the "Gypsy Hungarian" began to live an independent life. That is, not according to the written text and not according to the notes, but as if by itself. Different performers included in "their" song different stanzas from Grigoriev's poems and, with the same freedom, added new verses. There were sometimes mediocre and vulgar additions, but mostly the versions of "Gypsy Hungarian" - now the song was called "Two Guitars" - are worthy of the original. The dancing "Tsyganochka" is a kind of monument to the life of the Gypsies in Moscow, this guitar improvisation on a dancing theme in the spirit of the traditions of the tabor art remained in the performing practice of the best gypsy guitarists.

Apollon Grigoriev himself performed his poems to his own guitar accompaniment as two different romances:

"Oh, speak at least you are with me ..."

Oh, speak though you are with me
Girlfriend seven-string!
The soul is full of such longing
And the night is so moonlit!

Over there one star is burning
So bright and painful
The heart moves with beams,
Teasing him sarcastically.

What does her heart need?
He knows without that she,
That for her longing for long days
My whole life is chained ...

And my heart knows
Doused with poison,

That I drank her into myself
The breath is poisonous ...

I am from dawn to dawn
I miss, I suffer, I complain ...
Drink to me - finish
You are not singing a song.

Agree to your sister
All the omissions are strange ...
Look: the star burns brighter ...
Oh, sing my beloved!

And I'm ready with you until dawn
To carry on this conversation I ...
Only talk to me, drink
You are not singing a song!

"Gypsy Hungarian"("Two Guitars")

Two guitars jingling
They ached pitifully ...
From childhood, a memorable tune,
My old friend - are you?

How can I not recognize you?
There's a seal on you
Rampant hangover
Bitter fun!

It's you, dashing spree,
You are a merger of sadness, evil
With the lust of a bayadere -
You Hungarian motive!

Fifths rattle sharply
Shot sounds ...
Sounds whine and screech
Like groans of agony.

What kind of grief? Spit and drink!
Wind it up, wind it up
Rope woe!
Drown longing into the sea!

Here is the Basque walk
With daring careless
And behind her - ringing and din
Rampant and rebellious.

Overkill ... and the fifth again
Whines-howls;
Blood rushes to the heart
The head is on fire.

Chibiryak, chibiryak, chibiryak,
With blue eyes, my darling!

Shut up, don't be busy
Burst, evil quinta!
Don't mention them ...
I know them without you!
I should look at them at least once
Straight, clear, bold ...
And then die -
It's a damn thing.
How can you really not love?
It won't do!
But what strength is enough to live
We must marvel!
Pull yourself together and die
Will not come to say goodbye!
People will begin to interpret:
It won't do!
Why wouldn't it do
Speaking roughly?
So, just drop everything ...
It’s really bad!
Well share, you are mine,
You are a dashing lot!
I would break you
If only the will!
If she were mine
I would love very much ...
Yes, that fierce snake
Share - life ruined.
Hand and foot
Confused, tied,
On sleepless nights
The heart has sucked!
How it hurts or hurts
My heart hurts - it hurts ...
That's what the fifth says
That the bass howls.

Noisily jumping from top to bottom
Sounds scattered,
Ranged, braided
In a circular dance.
Like a camp all day
With a screech, whistle, scream
The whole enters with delight
Into the wild

Sounds murmur in a whisper
Voluptuous speech ...
The naked tremble
Chest, arms, shoulders.
The sounds are all drunk
Kisses to him.
The sounds of screams are full
Passionate shudders ...

Basan, Basan, Basana,
Basanata, Basanata!
You are given to another
No return, no return ...
What's the deal? you are mine!
Does he love as I do?
No - these are pipes!
You are my evil share
These jokes are stupid!
You and me, my soul,
Live one life
Life together is so good
Separately - evil grief!
Oh you, life, my life ...
Press your heart to your heart!
There will be no sin on you
And let people judge me
God will forgive me ...

What are you whining, my
Zealous heart?
I saw her
There is a ring on the hand! ..
Basan, Basan, Basana,
Basanata, Basanata!
You are given to another
No return, no return!
Eh-ma, you wind up
Rope grief ...
Take a walk and drink it
Drown longing into the sea!

Again a dull bust
Sounds cry again ...
What is a dumb reproach for?
Say a word!
I'm at your feet - look -
With mortal longing
Speak, speak
Have pity on me!
Am I really to blame
That because of the look
Yours - I would be glad
Take out the torment of hell?
That I would ruin you
And myself with you ...
If only you were mine
Forever with me.
Only for us to know
Never, not here, not there
Parting flour ...
Do you hear ... the demonic din again,
Sounds are striving again ...
Into the ugliest chaos
Wail and groan
Everything merged painfully.
This is a moment of goodbye.

Go away, go away
Bright vision! ..
I have a fire in my chest
And excitement in the blood.
Dear friend, I'm sorry, goodbye
Goodbye - be healthy!
Come on, come on
Evil fifth, again!
Screeching like torment
Like a child in pain
With all the grief of the rattle
Damned share!
Let it hurt more and more
Sounds take over
To hurry up the heart
Bursting with flour!

Ivan Vasiliev's romances were designed for a sad half-half-half-conversation with a guitar. He himself was a master of this genre, but this was already a different music than the work of his predecessor. The music columnist of that time wrote: "One cannot help but regret the unforgettable Ilya Sokolov ... And now they sing well, harmoniously, often fascinatingly; but there is no that revelry, that fire, distinctive feature a gypsy song, sharply separating it from any other melody. "The work of time is visible here. Life was changing, the audience was different - so gypsy art follows them, turning into a form of salon music. Shadows of past passions flicker in the elegiac sound of Vasilyev's romances -" They ruined me "," Not for me to heed "," Love of a gypsy "- and in the beautifully mournful singing of his chorus. 1870s Alexander Blok called" Russian reality "a" muddy sea and threatening shipwreck. "Since that time, it is increasingly delimited genuinely folk art gypsies and variety, restaurant, everyday performance of the gypsy romance. On this basis, a phenomenon arises and flourishes associated with the decline and exaggeration of song forms, which in the 19th century was called "gypsy", and in the 20th - "gypsy".

An excerpt characterizing Vasiliev, Ivan Vasilievich (general)

The Countess was lying on an armchair, stretching out strangely awkwardly, and banging her head against the wall. Sonya and the girls held her hands.
- Natasha, Natasha! .. - shouted the countess. - Not true, not true ... He is lying ... Natasha! She shouted, pushing those around her away. - Go away, everyone, it's not true! Killed! .. ha ha ha ha! .. not true!
Natasha knelt on a chair, bent over her mother, hugged her, lifted her with unexpected force, turned her face to her and pressed herself against her.
- Mom! .. dear! .. I'm here, my friend. Mama, - she whispered to her, without stopping for a second.
She would not let her mother out, fought tenderly with her, demanded pillows, water, unbuttoned and tore her mother's dress.
“My friend, my dear… mama, darling,” she whispered incessantly, kissing her head, hands, face and feeling how her tears were flowing uncontrollably in streams, tickling her nose and cheeks.
The Countess squeezed her daughter's hand, closed her eyes and was quiet for a moment. Suddenly she got up with unaccustomed speed, looked around senselessly and, seeing Natasha, began to squeeze her head with all her might. Then she turned her face, wrinkled with pain, to her and gazed into it for a long time.
“Natasha, you love me,” she said in a quiet, trusting whisper. - Natasha, won't you deceive me? Will you tell me the whole truth?
Natasha looked at her shedding tears eyes, and in her face there was only a plea for forgiveness and love.
“My friend, mama,” she repeated, straining all the strength of her love to somehow remove from her the excess of grief that pressed her.
And again, in a powerless struggle with reality, the mother, refusing to believe that she could live when her beloved boy, blossoming with life, was killed, escaped from reality in a world of madness.
Natasha did not remember how that day, night, next day, next night went. She did not sleep or leave her mother. Natasha's love, persistent, patient, not as an explanation, not as a consolation, but as a call to life, every second seemed to embrace the countess from all sides. On the third night, the Countess was quiet for a few minutes, and Natasha closed her eyes, leaning her head on the arm of the chair. The bed creaked. Natasha opened her eyes. The Countess sat on the bed and spoke softly.
- How glad I am that you came. Are you tired, would you like some tea? - Natasha went up to her. “You have grown prettier and matured,” the countess continued, taking her daughter by the hand.
- Mamma, what are you talking about! ..
- Natasha, he's gone, no more! - And, embracing her daughter, for the first time the Countess began to cry.

Princess Marya postponed her departure. Sonya, Count tried to replace Natasha, but could not. They saw that she alone could keep her mother from mad despair. For three weeks Natasha lived hopelessly with her mother, slept on an armchair in her room, gave her drink, fed her and spoke to her without ceasing, - she said, because one gentle, caressing voice soothed the countess.
The mother's wound could not heal. Petya's death tore off half of her life. A month after the news of Petya's death, who found her a fresh and cheerful fifty-year-old woman, she left her room half-dead and not taking part in life - an old woman. But the same wound that half killed the Countess, this new wound brought Natasha to life.
A mental wound resulting from the rupture of the spiritual body, just like a physical wound, oddly enough it seems, after a deep wound has healed and seems to come together at its edges, a mental wound, like a physical wound, heals only from the inside by the bulging force of life.
Natasha's wound healed in the same way. She thought her life was over. But suddenly love for her mother showed her that the essence of her life - love - was still alive in her. Love woke up and life woke up.
During the last days of Prince Andrei, Natasha was tied to Princess Marya. A new misfortune brought them closer together. Princess Marya postponed her departure and for the last three weeks, like a sick child, took care of Natasha. The last weeks Natasha spent in her mother's room overwhelmed her physical strength.
One day Princess Marya, in the middle of the day, noticing that Natasha was trembling in a feverish chill, took her to her place and put her to bed. Natasha lay down, but when Princess Marya, lowering her sides, wanted to go out, Natasha called her over to her.
- I don't want to sleep. Marie, sit with me.
- You're tired - try to sleep.
- No no. Why did you take me away? She will ask.
- She's much better. She spoke so well today, ”said Princess Marya.
Natasha lay in bed and in the semi-darkness of the room looked at Princess Marya's face.
“Does she look like him? Thought Natasha. - Yes, it is similar and not similar. But she is special, alien, completely new, unknown. And she loves me. What's on her mind? Everything is good. But how? What does she think? How does she look at me? Yes, she's beautiful. "
“Masha,” she said, timidly drawing her hand to her. - Masha, don't think that I'm bad. No? Masha, my dear. I love you so much. Let's be completely, completely friends.
And Natasha, embracing, began to kiss the hands and face of Princess Mary. Princess Marya was ashamed and rejoiced at this expression of Natasha's feelings.
From that day on, that passionate and tender friendship was established between Princess Marya and Natasha, which can only be between women. They kissed incessantly, spoke tender words to each other and spent most of their time together. If one came out, the other was restless and hurried to join her. The two of them felt more harmony with each other than separately, each with itself. A feeling stronger than friendship was established between them: it was an exceptional feeling of the possibility of life only in the presence of each other.
Sometimes they were silent for hours; sometimes, already lying in bed, they began to talk and talked until morning. Most of them talked about the distant past. Princess Marya talked about her childhood, about her mother, about her father, about her dreams; and Natasha, who had previously turned away from this life, devotion, obedience, from the poetry of Christian self-sacrifice with a calm lack of understanding, now, feeling herself bound by love with Princess Marya, fell in love with Princess Marya's past and understood the side of life that she had never understood before. She did not think to apply humility and self-denial to her life, because she was used to looking for other joys, but she understood and fell in love with this previously incomprehensible virtue in another. For Princess Marya, who listened to stories about Natasha's childhood and first youth, the previously incomprehensible side of life, faith in life, in the pleasures of life, was also revealed.
They never talked about him in the same way, so as not to break with words, as it seemed to them, the height of feeling that was in them, and this silence about him did something that little by little, not believing it, they forgot him.

Years of life 1909-1977.

Personal example of a commissar

(based on materials from the VPA publishing house)

VASILIEV IVAN VASILIEVICH was born on January 2, 1899 in the village of Borovnya, now the Leningrad Region, in a peasant family. Russian. Member of the CPSU since 1920.Since 1917 in the Red Guard, then in Soviet army... Participant civil war... He graduated from the Higher Border School About the GPU in 1925, in 1933 - from the Military-Political Academy. During the Great Patriotic War he fought on the Western, Stalingrad, Donskoy, South-Western, 1st Ukrainian fronts. Major General I. Vasiliev, a member of the Military Council of the 1st Guards Army (4th Ukrainian Front), skillfully organized party political work during the battles for the liberation of Ukraine. By personal example he inspired soldiers and commanders. He died in August 1944 in the foothills of the Carpathians. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded posthumously on June 29, 1945. Awarded with the order Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War, I degree.

Brigadier Commissar I. Vasiliev met the Great Patriotic War on the western border of the country as a division commissar. With fierce battles, it retreated to the east. As the head of the political department of the heroic 62nd army, he took part in the defense of Stalingrad.

The head of the political department set an example of endurance and courage in battle. He was often seen in trenches, in firing positions. He explained combat missions, the most important decisions of the party and government, emphasized the personal responsibility of each soldier for the fate of Stalingrad, for the fate of the Motherland.

As a member of the Military Council of the Army major general IV Vasiliev showed himself to be a competent military leader, a principled political worker. Together with the commander of the army, Colonel-General A.A. Grechko and other members of the Military Council, he participated in the development of operations, the leadership of the troops, and political and educational work.

In early August 1943, Vasiliev was appointed a member of the Military Council of the 1st Guards Army, which, participating in the Zhytomyr-Berdichev and Proskurovo-Chernivtsi offensive operations 1st Ukrainian Front, liberated many settlements, inflicted significant losses on the enemy. In July - August 1944, the 1st Guards Army took part in the Lvov-Sandomierz operation. She was tasked with capturing the Drohobych region and the passes through the Carpathians.

In mid-July, a difficult situation arose in the 38th Army's offensive zone. The front command decided to transfer there the shock group of the 1st Guards Army.

“It is quite understandable,” recalled Marshal of the Soviet Union A. A. Grechko, “that it was not easy to castle large army forces secretly from the enemy in such a short time. The command officers under the leadership of the chief of staff, General Batuni and member of the Military Council Vasilyev, did everything necessary to ensure that the movement of the strike group's formations was organized and unnoticed. Our offensive forced the Nazis to pull back significant forces of the tank group. "

During the days of the offensive, Major General Vasiliev did not know rest. He traveled to difficult areas, assisted the commander in making operational decisions, in providing the advancing troops with everything necessary for the battle, and took care of strengthening the agitation and propaganda work among the personnel.

Commissar IV Vasiliev taught that any operation, any battle is a responsible exam for both the commander and the political worker. Despite the most difficult conditions for the offensive, party political work in the army units did not weaken.

In July 1944, Vasiliev arrived at one of the regiments, which was counterattacked by large enemy forces. Having repulsed the onslaught, the soldiers, by order of the commander, quickly dug in, gaining a foothold on the occupied line. It was clear from everything that the enemy was preparing a new counterattack: the fascist infantry was again accumulating, tanks were pulling up. Vasiliev noticed a confused young soldier.

Was it difficult in the first battle? - in a fatherly way he asked him a question.

Yes, it's not easy, - he admitted.

And it will be, sonny, even more difficult. But don't be shy. We managed to dig in well, set up fire weapons.

The enemy will not take us by surprise. Let's stand firm! Like 28 Panfilovites.

They accomplished a feat at the beginning of the war, in 41st, and now 44th! Now we have better weapons and more experience. We will stand!

So the communist Vasiliev passed from fighter to fighter, strengthening in each of them the confidence in victory, inspiring them to feats.

Then Vasiliev met with the platoon's agitator Junior Sergeant N. Shishkin. He had long noticed how a communist, crawling from trench to trench, encourages the soldiers, Vasiliev thanked him.

The general said only a few warm words, and the junior sergeant was literally transformed by this praise. Having warmly said goodbye to Shishkin, Vasiliev moved further along the trench. There he met the attack of the enemy. Taking the machine gun, the general mowed down the Nazis with well-aimed bursts, encouraging the young soldiers:

This is how one should talk with the fascists! Stay confident, guys, the enemy will not pass!

Personal fortitude and the inspiring word of the communist leader in many ways helped the soldiers to withstand combat trials with honor, to repel the onslaught of the Nazis.

Visiting the units, Vasiliev asked the commanders and political workers whether all the soldiers who performed feats and distinguished themselves in battles were presented for awards, demanded in every possible way to promote their combat experience.

Along with leaflets-"lightning", war leaflets and large-circulation soldier's newspapers, on his initiative, the political department of the army published leaflets-leaflets dedicated to the best people units and formations of the 1st Guards Army; postcards with portraits of heroes, a brief description of their exploits, poetry. The nature of the leaflets was varied. In addition to those that were addressed to our troops, leaflets were issued informing the enemy troops about the situation on the fronts and the victories of the Red Army.

As the surrendered Germans have repeatedly stated, the leaflets had an impact on the enemy soldiers.

Political work in a combat situation took the most varied forms. Much depended on the initiative, creativity, resourcefulness of the commanders, political workers and communists, who knew how to inspire, draw along and raise the soldiers' masses to fight the hated enemy. The head of the political department of the army I. Vasiliev spared no effort or time for training active forms this work of political workers, party activists.

The 1st Guards Army, with stubborn battles, advanced towards the Carpathians, crushing enemy troops on its way. She freed Rohatyn, Galich, Kalush, regional center Stanislav, Drohobych industrial center.

Major General Vasiliev dreamed of reaching Berlin. But this was not destined to come true. He died in the Carpathian region. The former commander of the 18th Guards Rifle Stanislavsky Corps, Hero of the Soviet Union, tells about the circumstances of the death of the brave communist lieutenant general I. Afonin:

On August 11, 1944, I received a call that a member of the Military Council of the 4th Ukrainian Front was going to the corps headquarters. He is accompanied by Major General Vasiliev. This trip was very risky, for the enemy conducted methodical artillery and mortar fire on the road and in the area of \u200b\u200bthe headquarters. I drove out to meet them. I saw several cars on the slope. They were hit by fascist artillery. During this artillery attack, a member of the Military Council of the 1st Guards Army, Major General I. Vasiliev, was killed. For me, he was not only a boss, but also a fighting friend, comrade. With a heavy heart, I returned to the headquarters of the corps. He gave orders and went to Drohobych to take part in the funeral of General I. Vasiliev.

Marshal of the Soviet Union A. Grechko characterizes I. Vasiliev as follows: “Major General Vasiliev has shown himself to be a devoted and active political worker. Under any conditions, the army's troops felt his concrete and operational leadership in combat and economic life. He was closely associated not only with the commanders and the political composition of the units, but also with the Red Army. I always knew the mood and requests of soldiers, sergeants and officers, and responded to them in a timely and effective manner.

Exceptionally great work was done by Comrade Vasiliev during the period of heavy defensive battles and offensive operations of army troops in the western regions of Ukraine. He skillfully influenced the increase in the morale of the personnel of the units, thereby ensuring a high offensive impulse. Through his personal behavior in battle, he instilled in soldiers and officers an infinite devotion to the Motherland and a burning hatred of the enemy, contempt for death. "

Major General IV Vasiliev was buried in the city of Drohobych.

There are always fresh flowers on his grave.
