Vasily grew up nimble, loved to play football and fish, was the initiator of many boyish fun, it was not by chance that he was nicknamed Vaska - a bully.
The family lived hard. At the age of sixteen, after finishing the seven-year period, Vasya had to go to work at the factory. CRAFF. He was sent to the machine shop as an apprentice turner. A responsible and hardworking young man quickly mastered the specialty. For his honesty and openness, he was loved in the team. He became the soul of the football team.

On the fronts of the Great Patriotic War has been since February 1942. Was the commander of the reconnaissance platoon of the 53rd Guards Tank Brigade (6th Guards Tank Corps, 3rd Guards Tank Army, 1st Ukrainian Front).

In 1943, Vasily came to his native Lepeshki. Many years later, fellow villagers recalled the words of a young tankman, uttered in his sister's house: "The enemy is strong, but we must defeat him. I will not spare my life to destroy the fascists."

On January 16, 1945, Guard Lieutenant Novikov was among the first to break into the city of Radomsko (Poland) with battles. During a week of fighting, he destroyed 4 enemy tanks with his tank. He was the first to reach the German border.

In battles, the tank commander, lieutenant of the 53rd armored regiment was wounded and died of wounds on March 2, 1945. in the Evacuation Hospital No. 3958.
Buried in Poland, Petrovsky Voivodeship, Radomsko.

In a stubborn struggle with the Germans, many Soviet and Polish soldiers died, all dead heroes buried in the central cemetery. … Here you can always see fresh flowers. On the grave of your son, on a stone slab, it is written: "Lieutenant V. I. Novikov died on 21/1-1945." Grass was sown in a concrete frame and red rose bushes were planted. A monument to a Soviet soldier rises on Navodki Square, and in 1945 a monument to a Soviet tankman was erected in front of the town hall. ... We salute you, dear Tatyana Vasilievna, for raising a courageous son and promise to always take care of his grave. "

Memoirs of a fellow soldier - I.I. Gavrilenko

In his memoirs, his fellow soldier I.I. Gavrilenko writes: "I remember Vasily Ivanovich Novikov as young, handsome and very cheerful, even a little mischievous, but very sincere. At the end of May 1944, we received brand new T-34 tanks and went straight from the Urals to the 1st Ukrainian Front." AND. Novikov commanded a tank reconnaissance platoon (53rd Guards Tank Brigade of the 6th Guards Tank Corps, part of the 3rd Guards Tank Army under the command of Marshal of Armored Forces PS Rybalko). He took part in the Lvov - Sandomierz operation, outside the fortress city of Przemysl. By joining unequal fight with an enemy armored train, his tank crew, skillfully maneuvering, was able to disable the steam locomotive and thereby stop the armored train. In August 1944, Vasily Novikov was awarded the order Of the Red Banner. In the same recollections of a fellow soldier there are the following lines: "Like a meteor, he fearlessly flew on his thirty-four, destroying with fire and caterpillars manpower and the enemy's equipment ... And when there was a short respite between battles,
Vasily Ivanovich again became cheerful and mischievous, with a sly in his eyes, with a garrison cap famously knocked to one side, from under which a forelock of black curly hair curled. "
Striking from the Sandomierz bridgehead in the direction of Breslau, the first Ukrainian front took part in the liberation of Poland. On January 17, the 3rd Guards Tank Army, having overcome the enemy defenses on the Barta River, stormed the military-industrial center of Poland, the city of Czestochow. On January 18, the front armies launched a struggle for the Upper Silesian industrial region. The enemy put up desperate resistance, trying to keep the centers for the extraction of coal, the production of ammunition, fuel, metal.
In these battles, the tank reconnaissance platoon V.I. Novikov. From 12 to 19 January, the commander destroyed two Tigers, one Panther, a T-4 tank, about 200 German soldiers and officers. Bursting one of the first into the city of Radomsko, he captured 50 Nazis. This is how I.I. Gavrilenko the last battle Vasily Novikov: "Our tank brigade reached the Prosna river. Sappers and machine gunners cleared the only bridge in the area and the approaches to it. Beyond the river - Germany. V.I.Novikov was the first to break into fascist land on a tank. His crew destroyed four anti-tank vehicles on the move. and two field guns, suppressed five machine-gun points and fifty vehicles with military cargo. This battle was the last for Vasily Ivanovich Novikov. On January 19, 1945, he was seriously wounded and died soon after. "

Vasiliev K.We remember them by name ...
Meeting with fellow soldiers of Vasily Ivanovich Novikov.

The workers of the machine shop will remember September 15 this year for a long time. On this day, veterans of the Third Guards tank army, in which our fellow countryman, a former turner fought. Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Ivanovich Novikov. On the occasion of the guests' arrival, a meeting was held in the workshop. It was attended by the former head of the political department of the 53rd Guards Tank Brigade, retired Colonel Alexander Yakovlevich Zarapin, former tank commander, combat friend and comrade of Vasily Ivanovich, retired Guard Lieutenant Mikhail Grigorievich Niskerov, former intelligence officer, retired guard captain Vladimir Alexandrovich Lisitsyn, former flamethrower, retired guard senior sergeant Lev Nikolayevich Petrovich and former loader, retired guard senior sergeant Ivan Ivanovich Gavrilenko. On the chest of each military orders and medals - awards for courage and heroism shown in battles in the defense of the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War.

The meeting was opened by the secretary of the party bureau of the shop organization E. M. Turzhansky.

A. Ya. Zarapin was the first to speak.

We are pleased, - he said, - on the instructions of the Council of Veterans of the Tank Army, to convey to you, fellow-soldiers of our fellow soldier, heartfelt greetings and congratulations on the Day of Tankmen, which was celebrated yesterday in our country.

With Vasily Ivanovich, - continues the war veteran, - I was familiar from the first day of his service in the 53rd Guards Tank Brigade. I remember him as a brave, honest, intelligent and very sincere young man. We veterans often remember him and are proud of him, his heroic deed. He was the first to cross the state border in his tank and entered the territory Western Europe... In an unequal heavy battle, Novikov's tank was knocked out by the Nazis and caught fire, and Vasily Ivanovich himself was seriously wounded, from which he died. You, fellow countrymen of the hero, can be proud of your comrade who worked within the walls of this workshop.

With bated breath, the participants of the meeting listened to the speech of the fighting friend and comrade Vasily Ivanovich M. G. Niskerov.

Mikhail Grigorievich, together with V. I. Novikov, received the famous "thirty-four" combat vehicles. Together he arrived in a tank brigade, and then for a year fought side by side on the front line, crushed hordes of fascists.

There are people, - he said, - with whom you work for many years or have had a chance to fight for a long time, but their names are smoothed out in memory. I remember the image of Vasily Ivanovich for the rest of my life. Young, handsome, with lush hair of hair, brave, even desperate, but honest, good-natured and very sensitive to his comrades - this is how I remember him.

Our joint first battle, - says the war veteran, - was near Ternopil. The operation was named "Lvov". The Nazis concentrated very large forces here. Our tank unit was ordered to go to the Sudovaya Vishnya railway station. Three tanks were leading, including mine and Vasily Ivanovich's. Coming out to the station, our three cars were behind enemy lines. Here I saw genuine heroism and the high skill of his friend. He, like a meteor, rushed about on his "thirty-four", shot and crushed the fascists and their military equipment... At the station, our three vehicles detained three train echelons and blocked 13 ammunition depots. A lot of military equipment was destroyed. Here they knocked out a staff vehicle and seized very important documents.

MG Niskerov, together with our fellow countryman, participated in the battles for the liberation of Przemyl, which was defended by fascist armored trains. And here Vasily Ivanovich boldly entered into single combat with an armored fortress and put it out of action.

There were many other combat episodes, - said M. G. Niskerov, - after all, the whole war is a great battle, which has absorbed thousands of combat episodes. The tankers were very worried about the death of their comrade. Our unit with battles reached Berlin, and ended the war in Prague, and everywhere we mercilessly crushed the fascists. We avenged our life best friend and comrade in arms, your fellow countryman Vasily Ivanovich Novikov.

I, personally, did not meet with Vasily Ivanovich, - said V. A. Lisitsyn, - but I knew about his heroic deeds from the front-line newspapers. He lived a short but bright life.

An eighteen-year-old boy in 1942, L. N. Petrovykh went to the front. As part of a tank army, he went along the roads of war from Tula, through Oryol, Belorusskaya and Ukraine to Berlin. He received several wounds, but each time he returned to the front line. He still carries 16 fragments in his body, as he says, the metal cast at the Krupa factories.

The meeting participants were very warmly greeted by a message from a member of the Council of Veterans of the Army that in honor of the memory of Vasily Ivanovich Novikov, the council decided to present the staff of the shop with a Guards badge, which will be given to the best turner of the shop. The machine will be given the title of "Guardsman", and the turner - "Guardsman". Turner Viktor Kitaev was the first to receive this high award. Accepting the award from the hands of the war veteran, he assured the guests and the entire team that he justified the high title.

A participant in the war, a former tanker, a locksmith - thermist A.S. Legkov spoke on behalf of the shop staff. He congratulated the war veterans on the Day of Tankmen and assured them that the workshop staff will never forget the names of those who gave their lives in the terrible years of the Patriotic War.

After the meeting, the veterans - the guards laid fresh flowers at the memorial plaque to Vasily Ivanovich Novikov.

The Russian Orthodox Church has established a tradition to rank as saints only those righteous people who have passed a considerable period of time since their death. However, there have always been and are saints of God, who have earned such ardent love of their contemporaries for their piety that universal rumor glorifies them long before the decision of the Holy Synod. Hieromonk Vasily (Novikov) is such an unofficial, but revered saint among the people. A book about his life, compiled by nun Natalia (Andronova) and called "The Good Shepherd", formed the basis of this article.

Grandson of Eldress Pelageya

On January 14, 1949, in the pious Russian family of Nikolai Evgenievich and Nadezhda Vasilievna Novikov, who lived in the village of Rakitino, Tula region, the first-born was born, who was named Basil in holy baptism. After him, the Lord sent his parents three more children - brothers Sergei and Ivan, as well as his sister Lydia.

The family in which the future shepherd was born has been closely connected with Orthodoxy for a long time. Their fellow villagers still cherish the memory of his grandmother Pelageya, who deservedly acquired the glory of the old woman. Even in the distant pre-revolutionary years, she twice made pilgrimages on foot to Jerusalem. Old-timers said that after the first such trip, the gift of clairvoyance began to manifest in her.

So, she predicted with amazing accuracy the events that were yet to come true. Having been honored to visit the Holy Land for the second time, Eldress Pelageya (this is how everyone in the area has called her since then) showed amazing examples of the healing of the sick and the expulsion of demons. The future hieromonk Vasily (Novikov) witnessed all this in his early years.

He himself more than once recalled how the demoniac was torn from the chains with wild cries, brought to his grandmother Pelageya for healing, and how he suddenly became quiet and spoke in a calm, intelligible voice after she, having sprinkled him with holy water, read a prayer. Of course, such scenes, of which there were many, left an indelible imprint on the forming consciousness of a teenager.

The early years of the future zealot of the faith

An important role in the religious upbringing of their son was also played by the parents themselves - deeply devout people who built their lives according to the commandments of God and in accordance with the traditions of Orthodoxy. As a result, attending a Soviet school as a child, hieromonk Vasily (Novikov) managed to remain a true Christian, not staining himself with atheistic nihilism. It should be noted that he, like the rest of the children in their family, never joined either the Pioneer or the Komsomol organization.

Like most rural children, Vasily with early years joined the work, helping his parents in the garden and in the field, grazing livestock and preparing firewood. It was especially hard for him after his father died as a result of a serious illness, and the mother, who worked as a nurse in the district hospital, was left alone with four children.

In their family, the memory of one very unusual circumstance associated with last days life of Nikolai Evgenievich. Subsequently, they said that shortly before his death, the image of Nicholas the Wonderworker, which was their ancestral shrine, placed in the red corner, suddenly faded. The change in him was so significant that the features imprinted on him became almost indistinguishable. When the soul of the deceased left the body, the icon took its former form.

A kind word about Nadezhda Vasilievna Novikova

By the way, having become a widow, Nadezhda Vasilievna became even more filled with religious feelings. Despite the extreme busyness caused by household chores and daily work, she spent a lot of time in the Church of John the Baptist, located eight kilometers from the village, where, in addition to participating in divine services, she helped his rector and her spiritual father Archpriest Mikhail (Chudakov) in any way she could.

In the last two decades, Nadezhda Vasilievna voluntarily imposed restrictions on food, adopted by the monks. She never ate meat, and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, her entire daily diet consisted only of prosphora, washed down with holy water. At every opportunity, Nadezhda Vasilievna made pilgrimages to where she took her children with her.

Subsequently, Hieromonk Vasily (Novikov), whose photo is presented in this article, often recalled how deeply the singing of monks sunk into his soul, which he had heard more than once on such trips. He also talked about how, thanks to his musical abilities, which manifested itself at an early age, he often during church services stood next to the singers and sang along with them.

Military service and the beginning of an independent life

After graduating high school, and having reached draft age, Vasily went to serve in the army. By the Commission of the Military Commissariat, he was sent to the Northern Fleet, where during three years served on a nuclear submarine. Here the skill for work, developed in him since childhood, came in handy for the young man. Conscientiously performing any work entrusted to him, the sailor Novikov deservedly earned universal respect.

Demobilized in 1970, the future hieromonk Vasily (Novikov) entered the Uzlov Railway School and, upon graduation, was assigned to the city of Ershov, where he began to work as an assistant to a locomotive driver. There, the Lord soon sent him his bride, Valentina.

After the wedding, the young couple settled in the town of Uzlovaya, Tula region, where they had three children - sons Alexander and Mikhail, as well as daughter Natalya. Soon, as a leading worker, Vasily was promoted to a leading position.

An important turn in life

It would seem, what more could a young man want? However, hieromonk Vasily (Novikov) dreamed not of such a fate, whose biography by that time completely fit into Soviet stereotypes. He considered his true vocation the priesthood, to which he strove with all his soul, but such a sharp turn in life demanded considerable determination from him.

Since Vasily was a man burdened with a family, then, of course, he could not make such an important decision without the consent of his wife. Having told Valentina about his intentions, he met with a categorical objection on her part, the essence of which was, mainly, that she married "a machinist, not a priest."

Not daring to impose his opinion on his wife, and only fervently praying to God for the enlightenment of His servant Valentina, Vasily went to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, where, near the shrine with the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh, he asked the saint for help and intercession in such an important matter. His prayers were answered and, returning home, the pilgrim found his wife softened in heart and full of readiness to follow him in a new field.

This story ended with the fact that on one of the days of Great Lent in 1993, God's servant Vasily (Novikov) was ordained a deacon, and a week later - a priest. Thus began his many years of service to God, on the path of which he entered, having found in that the blessing of the great holy land of Russia - the Monk Sergius of Radonezh.

Dignity and the beginning of spiritual achievement

Father Vasily began his pastoral ministry in the village of Spasskoye, Tula Region, where he was sent after being ordained. Since the 90s were the period that ended the long decades of persecution of Russian Orthodoxy, many churches, especially those located in rural areas, were by that time in a very poor condition.

This is exactly what the Church of the Passing of the Honest Trees of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord in the village of Spasskoye turned out to be, the rector of which was hieromonk Vasily (Novikov). The fiery sermon of the priest, addressed to the hearts of his new fellow villagers, helped him find many volunteer helpers among them in the restoration of the shrine.

When, thanks to their labors, backed up by his own zeal, the temple was brought into proper form, and religious life was revived in it, the diocesan authorities transferred another church under his care, located in a neighboring village, and almost completely destroyed. It was once known throughout the region, the temple of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. It was also restored with the help of God-loving fellow villagers and voluntary sponsors, whom Father Vasily found.

Monastic tonsure

On Holy Week of Great Lent, 1997, the Lord called Father Vasily's wife Valentina to His Heavenly Halls, after which the priest finally moved to the village of Spasskoye, Tula Region, where he spent the rest of his life. In April 2006, with the blessing of the diocesan bishop, he took over the secret one, keeping the old name.

From that day on, his ministry began in the "rank of angels," as from time immemorial they spoke of those who, rejecting the transitory joys of the vain world, devoted themselves entirely to serving God. It is known that, in addition to Father Vasily, 14 more people were tonsured as monks at the same time, which initiated the creation of a new monastery.

Spiritual Shepherd of the Villagers

Remaining, as before, the rector of a rural church, Hieromonk Vasily (Novikov) of Tulsky - as it is customary to call him, he tirelessly cared about the decency and splendor of church life. Exclusively thanks to his diligence, the wall paintings that had fallen into disrepair were restored, a baptismal and almshouse building was built, their parents were also opened, and a choir of choir singing was organized.

Always immersed in parish affairs, Hieromonk Vasily (Novikov) did not forget about carrying out monastic deeds, the main of which at that time was unceasing inner prayer, the vow to fulfill which he made during tonsure, as well as regular prayer night vigils. The villagers recalled how often the light in Father Vasily's window did not go out throughout the night.

Having begun to make such prayers in private, that is, at home, secluded from everyone, the priest soon transferred them to the temple, where he gathered everyone who wanted to. He accompanied the liturgical texts with the reading of the Psalms and Akathists. The night vigil was completed by the always deeply thought out and brilliantly performed sermon of Hieromonk Vasily (Novikov).

Ardent adherent of monarchism

In terms of his political predilections, Father Vasily was a staunch monarchist, who believed that only the autocracy could provide Russia with peace and prosperity. Being a sincere admirer of the innocently murdered Tsar Nicholas II, he perceived his death as an atoning sacrifice brought to the altar of the fatherland.

Having repeatedly visited the village of Taininskoye, where a local priest performed the Rite of repentance for the crimes of the Bolsheviks in those years, the priest also repeated this rite many times in his church. This practice largely contributed to the fame he gained in the 2000s.

An important role in this was played by the fiery sermon of Hieromonk Vasily Novikov (August 2007) about the importance of true faith in human life and the inadmissibility of its substitution by worship of worldly and coming values. The video recording of this speech was widely distributed on the Internet.

Simultaneously with it, a film appeared in which such brilliant representatives of the spiritual life of Russia in those years as Hieromonk Vasily (Novikov) and Hierodeacon Abel (Semyonov) address the Russians with pastoral instruction, accompanying their words with prophecies about the future of the country.

A fighter for the purity of faith

The next year, Father Vasily submitted to the leadership of the diocese an application for his removal from the state, and the provision of an opportunity to continue pastoral activities at the place of residence, which is provided for by one of the articles of the current Church charter. His request was granted, and since then the sermon of Hieromonk Vasily (Novikov) sounded to all who gathered on the appointed days near his house in Spasskoye.

It should be noted that Father Vasily was always distinguished by high principles of principle and never compromised in matters of faith and many other aspects. modern life... In particular, he publicly expressed his extremely negative attitude towards ecumenism and globalism. In this regard, it is known that hieromonk Vasily (Novikov), whose fiery sermon sometimes touched upon these problems, was more than once attacked by the authorities, who saw signs of extremism in his speeches.

The death of the righteous

The last pious act of Father Vasily is the construction of a font in the village of Ivankovo \u200b\u200bover a holy spring dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. This building, which was consecrated on November 4, 2010, was built by him with the help of spiritual children, as well as voluntary donors. The work took away a lot of energy from the priest, since at the beginning of the same year, having caught a cold, he fell ill, and over the next months he tried to transfer the illness on his feet, which did not let him go.

Father Vasily did not turn to doctors for help, preferring folk remedies and prayer. However, in November, his condition worsened so much that he could only take the Holy Unction once again and partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ without getting up from his bed. Finally, in the early morning of November 11, 2010, while reading one of the canons, he quietly departed to the Lord.

Uncanonized saint

On this day, many priests and spiritual children visited the house in which their brother in Christ and spiritual mentor, Hieromonk Vasily (Novikov), offered up his last prayer. The cause of death of this ascetic of piety was, no doubt, not only in the illness that befell him, but also in the extreme exhaustion of the strength devoted to serving the church.

The burial of Father Vasily took place at the confluence of a huge number of people who came to the village of Spasskoye from all over the country to spend in last way his spiritual mentor and teacher. But even after the days of commemoration of the deceased, established by church tradition, have passed, the grave of hieromonk Fr. Vasily (Novikov) is regularly visited by his admirers. An inextinguishable lamp always flickers on it.

They all believe that one day, among other Russian saints, their spiritual mentor, Hieromonk Vasily (Novikov), will also be glorified in the face of the saints. The troparion was compiled for him shortly after his death, and the day is not far off when, on the next anniversary of his death, he will sound in all Russian churches.

    An excerpt characterizing Novikov, Vasily

From the hall of the nobility, the sovereign went into the hall of the merchants. He stayed there for about ten minutes. Pierre, among others, saw the sovereign leaving the hall of the merchants with tears of affection in his eyes. As they later learned, the sovereign had just begun his speech to the merchants, when tears gushed from his eyes, and he finished it in a trembling voice. When Pierre saw the sovereign, he went out, accompanied by two merchants. One was familiar to Pierre, a fat tax farmer, the other a head, with a thin, narrow-bearded, yellow face. They both cried. The thin man had tears, but the fat tax farmer sobbed like a child and kept repeating:
    - Take life and property, your majesty!
Pierre felt nothing at that moment, except the desire to show that he did not care about everything and that he was ready to sacrifice everything. As a reproach, he saw his speech with a constitutional direction; he was looking for an opportunity to make amends. Upon learning that Count Mamonov was donating the regiment, Bezukhov immediately announced to Count Rostopchin that he was giving a thousand people and their maintenance.
Old man Rostov could not tell his wife what had happened without tears, and immediately agreed to Petya's request and went to write it down himself.
The Tsar left the next day. All the assembled nobles took off their uniforms, settled again in their houses and clubs and, grunting, gave orders to the governors about the militia, and were surprised at what they had done.
