With marshak my secret is willpower. Org

I honestly admit
That in the dark I am afraid to sleep.
When it's dark around me
And the window is curtained
I feel like jumping up
And quickly turn on the light.

I'm afraid of the feeling
But by force of will I fight with him -
I say to myself: “Lie down!
Keep your eyes closed! "

And I lie, I lie, I lie
I keep my eyes closed
And finally I fall asleep.
Well, am I not done well!

And one could start
In order not to turn off the light
And so it won't be dark
Do not cover the window.
And sleep until morning in the light ...

But you can also become a coward!

Analysis of the poem "Willpower" by Mikhalkov

For the first time, "Willpower" Sergei Vladimirovich Mikhalkov published in the magazine "Murzilka".

The poem was written no later than 1982. The poet turned 69 at this time, he is a master of Soviet children's literature, a laureate of many state awards and an honorary citizen of four cities, a deputy, author of collections of poems, fables, scripts for films and cartoons, creator of the popular satirical newsreel "Fitil". The poet is happily married, and by this time he had already become a grandfather many times. In terms of genre - a story about character education, adjacent rhyme, 5 stanzas (the last one is monotonous). The poem opens with the confession of the protagonist. It turns out that he is afraid to sleep in the dark. He does not explain the reason for this fear, but it takes a little discernment to guess who he is afraid of. Of course, a folklore character like a beech or a babai. The very ones from which, for example, naughty children suffer. Those who could be instantly scared away with a bright light, but the hero does not follow the lead of fantastic creatures. The boy very picturesquely describes his feelings from the night spent in his own children's room (as you know, not everyone had it). The darkness becomes tangible and seems to envelop the helpless hero under a blanket from all sides. And then mom, out of habit, curtains the window, destroying the slightest source of light. The boy bravely fights against the panic urge to rush headlong to the switch. The second and third stanza he is engaged in self-hypnosis: lie down, keep your eyes closed. Gradually, fear and monsters recede, consciousness gets confused and the hero falls asleep. “Aren't I a good fellow!”: Something like this he thinks in the morning, waking up. In the next stanza, there is again a description of easy ways, which the boy is not looking for: do not turn off the light, do not curtain, sleep with at least a night lamp. In the finale, he indignantly drives away cowardice: you can also become a coward. The poet, as a connoisseur of child psychology, touches in verse a quite urgent problem and offers its worthy solution. He encourages children to sympathize with the hero and learn to admit, at least to himself, of their fears and difficulties. A number of lexical repetitions (lying) and negations, anaphora (eyes), epiphora (I'm afraid), internal monologue, polyunion, enumerations, several exclamations, ellipsis.

Systematic tempering of character is the leitmotif of S. Mikhalkov's didactic work "Willpower".
