What to pack for a student in a hostel. We check into a hostel: what a future student needs to take with us

Applicants will soon become students, and many will certainly have the question of what to take with them to the hostel. And it is not necessary that you are an applicant, maybe you just decided to live in a student dormitory, and not in an apartment. In both cases, it is useful to know the list of things that will come in handy for a comfortable stay.

Dishes

I think it's not even worth writing that you will need a mug, a plate, tea and table spoons, a fork (optional). Don't forget to bring a small kitchen knife and bottle opener. If you plan to eat normally, and not noodles and junk food, then you will need a saucepan and a frying pan (not large), as well as a cutting board and a ladle.

Things

From clothes the most necessary are slates or slippers. even in the best sneakers it is always harmful to walk, and the legs are matched, and rag slippers wear out very quickly. Shorts or light sports leotard for constant wear, T-shirts, bathrobe for girls. It happens that when you check in, the heating does not work for some time, so warm socks and a sweatshirt will not be superfluous.

Do not forget the bedding, if you do not plan to return home often, then prepare two sets. It is better to have your own pillow, and even if they are given out in the hostel, then very often they are flat like pancakes and it is impossible to sleep normally on them.

Small towel for face and hands and separate for shower. It is not very convenient to use a large bath towel in the morning to dry your face and hands. Also, one towel gets dirty very quickly and you will have to wash it often.

Household chemicals

From household chemicals in a student hostel, soap is useful for you and laundry for washing. Shampoo and other bathroom supplies, toothpaste and brush. I advise you to buy a plastic soap dish and a case for a toothbrush, it will be hygienic. Laundry detergent if you plan to live in a dorm for a long time without returning home. The girls, for sure, themselves know what else they absolutely need for daily hygiene.

Products

From food products for the first time, those with which the least trouble will be required. Lard is one of the indispensable foods for students in times of famine! Various pickles, canned food, jams will greatly facilitate the life of a hungry student. For cooking, you will need pasta, potatoes, cereals and onions with carrots. Stew and canned fish, salt and sugar, tea or coffee are required.

Student first aid kit

The most essential medicines are:

  • Aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid - antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-agrepine action
  • Citramon - for headaches
  • Activated carbon (a couple of packs) from the stomach
  • Pain reliever such as nurofen, tempalgin, etc.
  • Ketanov - with severe toothache, if the drugs from the point above did not help
  • Bactericidal adhesive plaster

Electrical appliances

Fridge necessary thing, if the hostel is not provided, then you need to agree with your roommates to buy an old refrigerator, perhaps one of the neighbors has an old, not used, but working one at home.

An electric kettle is a must-have in every room to drink tea or have a quick snack. The cost of a kettle is not expensive, so you can chip in and buy it, but in some hostels it is forbidden to use them, you will have to hide them. Also, do not forget about the iron if your appearance is important to you.

Almost everyone now has a computer or laptop. If before the presence of a computer was an amazing phenomenon, now the opposite is true. The computer can greatly help in learning, but also ruin. Those who like to play are often taken away by the army after the first session.

Most hostels have a washing machine, but they may not. You can buy or, in extreme cases, get a basin.

The list should include a needle with white and black threads. Of course, a lot of things have turned out, but they are all necessary. You can bring them in several visits. Remember that you must have a list of documents in order to check into a hostel.

It will be time to return to school very soon. Therefore, those who study in their own way hometown it's time to think about what you need to take with you for a comfortable life. Here we present a list of the things that you will need not only in the hostel, but also when renting an apartment.

Let's divide the list into several items.

Kitchen

The most important thing for a student is to eat right, because many people after having fun student years a variety of gastrointestinal diseases appear.

If you cook only for yourself, then it will be enough for you:

  • saucepan (2 l was enough for me)
  • pan
  • tablespoons and teaspoons, forks - 2-3 pcs
  • grater
  • cutting board
  • can opener
  • plates - 2 deep, 2 flat, 1 salad bowl.
  • gas kettle, that is, for heating water on a gas stove (if you cannot use an electric one in the hostel)

clothing

Take comfortable clothes to the hostel, ideal: shorts, leggings or loose pants, T-shirts or T-shirts. In the shower and after sleep - a bathrobe.

Also find out how the hostel is heated in winter. If it’s bad, then get some warm pajamas or warm robes / cardigans.

Be sure to take two slippers - rubber in the shower, the second of your choice.

Hangers - for pants and skirts, simple, for outerwear.

Personal hygiene products

If the dorm has only one shower per floor or even several floors, buy yourself a special plastic basket or a large waterproof cosmetic bag - it will be very convenient to carry all the means in them.

You will also need a bowl and ladle.

For sleep

Another very important point for all students.

It's better to take your own pillow and blanket than get them from the warehouse.

Ask what mattresses are available in your dorm. If you are old, then it would be nice to take your own - it will be more comfortable to sleep.

Two bed linen is enough.

Technics

Many hostels do not allow the use of kitchen appliances, as old wiring can burn out.

But, if in yours it is possible, then take:

  • electric kettle
  • microwave
  • multicooker
  • blender

Also ask the tenant or the commandant about the refrigerator. We rented from an official company, since the room was not assigned to us, and my friends bought theirs for the duration of their studies.

As for the TV, you won't need it, especially if you have a laptop.

A printer or copier is a very cool way to arrive in a hostel)

Common things

List of things that all residents will need to chip in:

  • mop and bucket
  • broom
  • dust rag
  • window cleaner, garbage bags
  1. Do not rush to take everything from home - make friends with your roommates and try to share who can take what.
  2. Get to know your neighbors - it will be much more fun and easier to live.
  3. Remember that you are not at home - this is a common area, think about comfort not only for yourself, but also for those around you.

Gaudeamus decided to help the newly minted freshmen. The whole editorial board remembered life in a hostel, and now we are sharing our experience.

In the photo, our editor is on the right

Julia Shubina, editor of the "Education" section:

“I would advise not to take anything extra to the hostel. At least this applies to household supplies. For a year in a hostel I lived without a frying pan, a decent knife, seasonings and almost no food at all. You live in such a large team - you have to share. And you also have to: when you get some kind of economy, be prepared that it will become public»

Marina Gamanova, journalist:

"TO so I think you need to bring your own blanket, pillow and linen. This, of course, is given out in hostels anyway, but, as for me, you need to have your own things like that. OOnot necessarily a laptop. It is more convenient than a personal computer, it takes up less space. AND patience and good mood are required»

Our most moving first year editor

Valentin Alyushin, editor of the "Motion" section:

“The check-in procedure in a hostel is one of the most difficult, because you immediately ask yourself a question: what should you take with you? Here is a standard set of the most necessary things for a comfortable stay.

Dishes - plates, forks, spoons, a saucepan, a frying pan. Without this, nowhere at all, fortunately, now there are enough shops where you can buy a full set of cutlery. It would also be nice to get a kettle and a bottle opener.

A basin and detergents - not all dormitories provide washing machines for residents, so it is better to stock up on household chemicals in advance.

Personal hygiene items are no comment. Warm blanket - as initially most likely you will be given a thin blanket that will not keep warm in winter.

A refrigerator and a microwave oven in the room is, if possible, but the utensils are still needed; it is better to buy a small refrigerator, especially if not very many people live in the room.

First aid kit - a mandatory minimum: pain reliever (nurofen) and antipyretic (aspirin).

Anya Abramova in the first year and in the kitchen in the hostel

Anya Abramova, journalist:

Peter is known to be a city creative people, and sometimes these comrades do not want to sleep at night at all, so if you are responsible, serious, come to study, then before moving in it would be good to see who you will share a room with, talk to the guys. If something does not suit you, then it is better to immediately approach the commandant. Then it will be more difficult to resolve all kinds of disputes.

Probably everyone has heard about the St. Petersburg climate, and because not all hostels have good repair or at least have double-glazed windows on the windows, then collect warm household items, woolen socks and duvets. And don't whine that it's hard to drag, your efforts will be made up for on icy winter nights.

The most important (and rare - approx. ed.) for a student, a subject in the kitchen. Ani Abramova's dorm

Take good care of your belongings. It is better to fold everything neatly and put it away so that you will not be surprised later why your T-shirt is stained, where did a half tube of cream go, and why the hair dryer is broken.

Probably the most important thing: the room schedule. It is better to agree right away who washes the floors, throws out the trash, etc. otherwise the scandals will be endless. All these things seem to be simple and self-evident, but I think that these are 4 pillars on which the whole common life rests. "

Our editor-in-chief in the hostel

Tanya Pshenichnaya, chief Editor Gaudeamus:

“I came to St. Petersburg four years ago, I didn't have a plate or a fork with me. It's a pity. The first days I ate exclusively lavash and juice from a bag.

After buying a cup, fork, spoon, pans, I had to buy detergents. The room after the former tenants - hot oriental, but not very clean men - had to be washed. We washed windows, floors with neighbors (we even bought a mop for this), wardrobes. Plus the hammer proved to be very useful. True, not to fight with neighbors, but to hang a shelf, photographs, hooks for clothes. And the rest of the money was spent on the purchase of textbooks, since not every university is ready to provide them to a student. "

If you entered a university in another city and want to experience all the delights student life - welcome to the hostel. Its residents will find a common life, lack of silence, fun parties and invaluable experience of independent living.

At first, it will be difficult to get used to it, but most of the students who have gone through the hostel then fondly remember this period and even after graduation continue to be friends with their roommates.

To quickly adapt to life in the new environment, it is enough to bring or buy things needed in the hostel. Of course, it is best to purchase them together with neighbors, this will save you money. More useful tips and tricks from student life can be read in our telegram channel

Notebook

An irreplaceable thing for a student of any specialty. Even teachers do not advise writing essays, control or course papers manually, and finding the necessary information on the Internet can be much faster than in a library.

Entertainment, too, has not been canceled: movies, TV shows, online games run better on the big screen than on a smartphone. Therefore, computer technology will come in handy anyway.

A laptop is the most convenient option: a stationary computer is too bulky to carry, and it is inconvenient to type study papers on a tablet. So that the laptop does not break and last as long as possible, do not forget.

Plus, you can carry your laptop with you to school. This will not only make it easier to take notes of lectures and do practical ones, but also save property from thieves (unfortunately, they also exist in hostels).

Fridge

The second most important thing on the list of things that will make life easier for a student in a hostel. A shared refrigerator for a block or several rooms creates a lot of problems:

  • it is rarely washed and thawed by someone;
  • there is always no place in it;
  • anyone can borrow your food from there

If you find a common language with your neighbors, it is best to purchase a separate refrigerator for your room. This way you can be sure that no one will take your lunch, and all the goodies sent by your parents will fit on the shelf and will not go bad.

By the way, after graduation, the refrigerator can be sold to freshmen who come to your place, and part of the money spent can be returned.

Microwave

Is a good alternative to the common stove in the kitchen block. The Internet offers a lot of simple and delicious dishes prepared with this device. Again, if the neighbors are not against such an initiative, you can buy a microwave together.

The only problem might be the commandant, who is unlikely to approve of an unauthorized electrical appliance in the room. You have to turn on your diplomatic talent, buy a box of chocolates and go to negotiate.

Dishes

Personal belongings in the hostel are not only equipment, but also dishes. Eating constantly in cafes or fast foods is harmful and expensive, so sooner or later you will still have to cook. From the dishes you should take:

  1. deep and flat plates;
  2. tablespoons and teaspoons;
  3. forks;
  4. several knives;
  5. frying pan;
  6. a saucepan or stewpan;
  7. cups and glasses.

Cutlery and plates will be needed in at least 3 copies, in case friends come to visit or parents come.

But remember: the less dishes you bring, the less dirty plates and forks will accumulate in your room.

Warm blanket

Very rarely, students are so lucky that they move into a hostel without problems with heating. Most often, the batteries in the rooms remain cold until the end of November, and if you do not want to spend half a semester on sick leave, you should take care of insulation. A warm duvet brought from home or bought from a local store can help you get through the night.

And if you've already made contact with the commandant, you may even be allowed to turn on the heater.

Table lamp

There are no floor lamps or sconces in the hostel, only an overhead light. In order to study normally in the evening, it is better to take care of a table lamp and not spoil relations with neighbors, whom the overhead light may interfere. And an additional source of bright adjustable light in any case does not hurt.

Hair dryer

An obligatory item on the list of things in a hostel for a girl. Going on a date or hurrying for a couple, you will surely waste time waiting in line for the shower. A hairdryer will help catch it up by drying your hair quickly.

This device will not interfere with young men. In addition to using it for its intended purpose, you can lend it to pretty neighbors and count on a mutual treat with something tasty.

Power distributor

Considering how many electrical appliances are on our list of things in the dorm, this useful device is indispensable. It is inexpensive, sold at your local hardware store, and has many benefits. It will provide an even distribution of energy and protect from broken traffic jams and, as a result, dissatisfied neighbors.

Earplugs

No matter how ridiculous it may sound, the problem of loud sounds will affect you in the coming months after the settlement. Such a simple and cheap thing will help when you need to prepare for tomorrow's difficult seminar, and the neighbors threw a fun party with loud music or even karaoke.

Board games

Well, if you are not too preoccupied with preparing your homework and want to have fun with new friends, grab a couple of board games from home with not too complex rules... Win-win options:

  1. "Monopoly"
  2. "Erudite"
  3. "Munchkin"
  4. "Uno"
  5. "Alias"
  6. "Mafia"
  7. Jenga.

Such cool things in the hostel will immediately make you a welcome guest in many rooms and will allow you to quickly establish friendly contacts.

This is the last item on the list, now you have a list of things that will facilitate study, life and brighten up your free time in the hostel.

Are you carried away by an interesting game and forgot that you are going to submit your abstract soon? Not scary, he will come to the rescue. There are professionals who will promptly and efficiently help to cope with any work.

Higher education educational institution - it is always happiness for a newly minted student. For many of them studying proccess starts with checking into a hostel. This article will tell you what documents are needed for this, and also reveal some of the nuances of settling.

Accommodation in a student residence requires a student to have a certain package of documentation. Answer the question "what documents are needed for this?" can the dean's office or other university structures responsible for this process.

Documents for check-in in a hostel are a prerequisite for check-in. Their list is as follows:

Additional references may be added to this list, the need for which each educational institution determines for itself. Most often, when checking into a hostel, students may be required to:

In addition to the above documentation, the freshman must have an order or an extract from the protocol made by the housing commission of the institute. It should indicate the building number, as well as the room number reserved for a particular student.

A very important point is the fact that former applicants who have not reached the age of majority are required to submit all documentation in the presence of one of their legal representatives - parents or guardians.

During the submission of all certificates and papers, legal representatives must have a document confirming their identity. Best of all, if it is a passport. In the case of guardians / trustees, in addition to the passport, they must present to the authorized person the papers certifying the rights of guardianship or custody of a particular minor.

As you can see, the package of documentation required for settling in a university dormitory contains a relatively small list of papers. Before checking in, it is advisable to learn in detail about the check-in procedure and prepare in advance the entire required set of documentation.

Special groups of people

The following groups of citizens are entitled to receive a certain kind of benefits when settling in a hostel:

  • orphans, as well as minors who have lost parental care;
  • students with disabilities, including the category of "disabled children";
  • children of military personnel who died in local wars;
  • state students who are part of the group of socially unprotected citizens, as well as persons who have scored a certain passing score upon admission;
  • forced migrants;
  • children from large families;
  • persons living in areas of environmental risk.

All citizens who are included in the above groups, in addition to the mandatory papers, must submit documentation confirming their status when checking into a university hostel.

Nonresident applicants also have settlement benefits. But the whole procedure still happens in turn.

First, free rooms are provided to persons with a certain social status - orphans, and only then are scholarships, honors students, activists, etc.

Anyone can get a place in a hostel upon admission to a university. The main thing is to prepare the necessary list of documentation in time.
