How to change the Russian language in Excel. How to translate text in Excel from different languages

When users are wondering how to change the language in Word, 99.9% of the time it's not about changing the keyboard layout. The latter, as you know, in the entire system is carried out by one combination - by pressing the keys ALT + SHIFT or CTRL + SHIFT, depending on what you have selected in the language settings. And, if everything is simple and clear with switching the layout, then changing the interface language is a little more complicated. Especially if in Word you have an interface in a language that you do not quite understand.

In this article, we will look at how to change the interface language from English to Russian. In the same case, if you need to execute reverse action, it will be even easier. In any case, the main thing is to remember the position of the items that must be selected (this is if you do not know the language at all). So let's get started.

1. Open Word and go to the menu "File" ("File").

2. Go to the section "Options" ("Parameters").

3. In the settings window, select "Language" ("Language").

4. Scroll through the options window to "Display Language" ("Interface language").

5. Select "Russian" ("Russian") or any other that you want to use in the program as the interface language. Click the button "Set As Default" ("By default") located under the selection window.

6. Click "OK" to close the window "Parameters", restart apps from package "Microsoft Office".

Note: The interface language will be changed to the language of your choice for all programs included in the Microsoft Office suite.

Changing the interface language for monolingual versions of MS Office

Some versions of Microsoft Office are monolingual, that is, they support only one interface language and cannot be changed in the settings. In this case, download the required language pack from the Microsoft website and install it on your computer.

2. In the table below the language selection window, select the version for download (32 bit or 64 bit):

  • Download (x86);
  • Download (x64).

3. Wait until the language pack is downloaded to your computer, install it (you just need to run the installation file).

Note: The installation of the language pack is automatic and takes some time, so you will have to wait a bit.

After the language pack is installed on your computer, launch Word and change the interface language by following the instructions described in the previous section of this article.

That's all, now you know how to change the interface language in Word.

Did you know that Excel has a tool for translating text into another language. With the mini translator, you can translate a phrase, paragraph, or an entire file written in another language. This element uses the functionality of the Microsoft Translator program, which is contained by default in Microsoft office applications. In today's article I will describe how to use this functionality. In addition, we will look at how to implement Yandex translator in our Excel workbook using the WEBSLUZHBA and FILTER.XML functions.

Translating with Microsoft Translator

So, you have a text that needs to be translated into another language. In our case, I want to translate the text in cells A1: A3 from Russian to English. Go to the tab Peer reviewto the group Language, click on the button Transfer.A panel appears on the right side of the book. Reference materials,in which you must specify the text to be translated and the source languages \u200b\u200band into which to translate.

There are two ways to specify the text for translation. The first, banal, we fill the text in the field with pens Search, indicate the translation language, press the arrow button to the left of the field, wait a couple of seconds until Microsoft Translator selects the necessary words and enjoy the translation result in the same panel.

The second option is more technological and assumes that the text to be translated is already on the sheet. To do this, hold down the Alt key and click on the cell with the translated text in the field Searchpanels Reference materialsyou will see the phrase from the selected cell, and below its translation. If you press the button Pasteunder the translation, Excel will replace the original text in the cell with the translated one.

This tool is easy to use and especially helps out if unfamiliar words come across in an Excel workbook.

Implementation of Yandex translator in Excel

The method described above does not require any special skills in Excel, it is enough to use it once, and everything will become clear. The method described below is more complicated and all the more interesting and will require some skill from users.

So, as I already wrote in the article about, Excel 2013 implements a tool for importing data in XML format using the function. The first function uses the web service API to download data from the Internet, the second returns specific information from the uploaded XML. To implement the conceived idea in Excel, we will use the Yandex translator, which has its own API. Go to the Yandex Translation API page, where you can read all the documentation and rules for formatting translation results, find the item Get FreeAPI-keyand click on it (ATTENTION! To get the key, you must have a Yandex profile).

Next, you need to fill out the form for obtaining an API key, where you need to indicate which service you need the key from, read the user agreement, tick the read box and click the button GetAPI-key.It looks like this.

This key will be used as one of the required arguments in the passed URL request to Yandex services. The next required argument is the text to be translated and the third argument is the direction of translation, can be specified as a pair of language codes (for example, ru-en), or as a target language code (for example, ru). You can read more about the syntax of the request URL on the Yandex.

Thus, you will have two required arguments practically unchanged - the key and the target language, and the translation text will be a variable argument.

An important point to pay attention to is that before sending a request to Yandex, you need to change the encoding of the request text to a language understandable for the web service. To do this, you need to use the ENCODE.URL function, which returns a URL-encoded string. For example, the text Samarawill look like% D0% A1% D0% B0% D0% BC% D0% B0% D1% 80% D0% B0.

By adding a bit of polish to our file, our translator has become quite readable.

After installing the add-on, a new function will appear \u003d TRANSLATION(TEXT;LANGUAGE). The function has only 2 arguments:

  • TEXT - The actual text to be translated. The maximum text length is 10,000 characters
  • LANGUAGE- Direction for translation. Can be set in one of the following ways:
  1. In the form of a pair of language codes ("from which" - "to which"), separated by a hyphen. For example, "en-ru" stands for translation from English into Russian.
  2. In the form of a target language code ( eg "ru"). In this case, the Yandex.Translation service tries to determine the source language automatically.

After installing the add-on, the function can be used in the same way as the built-in one. This is how the standard window for entering the parameters of the TRANSLATE function looks like. The following are various examples of using the translation functions.

Example 1

As already mentioned, the LANGUAGE variable can be set in two ways. The easiest way is to specify the target language code. In this case, Yandex will try to determine the source language itself.

Example 2

More difficult way - explicitly indicate the source language and the language into which you need to translate.

Comparing translation results with and without explicit indication of the source of the translation. They seemed identical to me. The speed of the function has not changed either.

Simplified translation functions

As a rule, we use two languages: Russian and English. To make life easier for myself and users, I made 4 more varieties of the function:

\u003d TranslationRu(TEXT) - Translates text from almost any language into Russian using the Yandex.Translation service (you do not need to specify the source language)

Example

Example 3

\u003d TranslationEn(TEXT) - Translates text from any language to english languageusing the Yandex.Translation service (you do not need to specify the source language).

Example

Example 4

You only need to specify the text you want to translate. The Yandex.Translation service will automatically try to determine the source language of the text.

\u003d TranslationEnRu(TEXT) - Translates text from English into Russian using the Yandex.Translation service.

Example

Example 5

Simplified function for translation from English to Russian. You only need to specify the text you want to translate.

\u003d TranslationRuEn(TEXT) - Translates text from Russian into English using the Yandex.Translation service.

Restriction on translation

Unfortunately, Yandex allows you to translate no more than 1 million characters per day for free. Due to the growth of users, this volume began to be achieved quite often. At 00:00 Moscow time, the restriction will be removed and the function will work again. If the volume is exceeded, the function returns the "Text cannot be translated" value.
