Chapter first

An unpleasant conversation with grandma. Mom is worried. Jack is hot on his trail. A strange discovery in Professor Enotov’s office. The mysterious disappearance of Ivan Germogenovich

At that hour, when mother was setting the table with a white tablecloth, and grandmother was cutting bread for dinner, these very strange, amazing, incredible events happened. It was at this time that Karik and Valya were already flying high above the city to an unknown world, where extraordinary adventures awaited them.

“It’s lunch,” the grandmother said grumpily, “and the guys are chasing dogs somewhere.” And I can’t imagine where they are!.. They never arrive on time... Before, when I was little...

“Oh,” said mom, “they didn’t even have breakfast.” Hungry, probably, like wolves.

She went to the open window and lay down on the windowsill.

- Kari-i-i-ik! Wa-a-ala-ya! - Mom screamed. - Go to lunch!

“Well,” grumbled the grandmother, “they’re in a hurry.” They probably don't have time for lunch now. You call them to dinner, and they might be playing skydiving. They may not need lunch, but an ambulance.

– What other long jumps? And why do they need an ambulance?

“You never know what can happen to naughty children,” said the grandmother.

She took a ball of wool, pulled out knitting needles and a long, unknitted wool stocking from her apron pocket. The knitting needles began to twist in her hands, pulling a thick woolen thread from the ball.

– Do you know Valerik? - asked the grandmother.

- Which Valerik?

- Yes, he’s the only one in our yard... a spoiled man. Son of a farm manager. After all, what did you think... He took out a large umbrella from somewhere, made a parachute out of it and jumped from the fifth floor balcony like an airborne paratrooper.

- So what?

- Nothing special. I caught my pants on a pipe and hung upside down. Hangs and screams. Of course, they called an ambulance. The doctor looked and ran to call the fire brigade. It probably hung there for half an hour... Well, they took it down, of course. And he's all blue. He can barely breathe. The doctor gave him a massage and an injection, but he should have been treated with a strap so that he would not indulge anymore. That's how mischievous they are now... When I was little...

“Oh,” said mom, “Karik and Valya won’t jump with an umbrella.” We don’t even have an umbrella.

- Well, you know, the guys can come up with something worse than an umbrella. Over there in the neighboring yard, a rascal invented a submarine. He made it out of a barrel and lowered it into a hole of water. It’s good that the janitor noticed the dive. They barely pumped out the mischievous man. And then recently three more people launched a space rocket. One had his teeth knocked out, and the other two...

“No, no,” mom waved her hands. - No need! And I don’t want to listen... Well, you really are scaring me.

And she again went to the window and shouted again:

- Karik! Valya! Go have lunch!

“When I was little...” my grandmother began.

Mom waved it off impatiently:

- Yes, you’ve talked about this so many times. They didn't tell you where they were going to go?

Grandma chewed her lips angrily.

“When I was little,” she said, “I always said where I was going.” And now such children grow up and do whatever they want... If they want, they go to the North Pole, or even to the South Pole... Or, for example, they recently broadcast it on the radio...

- What, what did they convey? - Mom asked hastily.

- Nothing! Some boy drowned! That's what they conveyed.

Mom shuddered.

“Well,” she said, “that’s... that’s nonsense!” Karik and Valya won't go swimming!

“I don’t know, I don’t know,” the grandmother shook her head, “whether they swim or not, I won’t say, but it’s already time for dinner, and they’re still not there.” Where are they?

Mom ran her hand over her face. Without saying a word, she quickly left the dining room.

“When I was little...” my grandmother sighed.

But my mother never found out what my grandmother did when she was little: she was already standing in the middle of the yard and, squinting her eyes from the sun, looked around. In the middle of the yard, on a yellow sand hill, lay Vali’s green scoop, and Karik’s faded skullcap lay nearby. And right there, with all four paws outstretched, the fat red cat Anyuta was basking in the sun. He lazily closed his eyes and stretched out his paws as if he wanted to give them to his mother.

– Where are they, Anyuta?

The cat yawned sweetly, looked at his mother with one eye and lazily rolled over onto his back.

- Well, where, where did they go? - Mom muttered.

She walked around the yard, looked into the laundry room and even looked into the dark windows of the basement where the firewood lay.

The guys were nowhere to be found.

- Ka-ari-ik! – Mom shouted again.

Nobody responded.

- Wa-a-ala! - Mom screamed.

“Aw-aw-woof-woof-woof!” – howled somewhere very close.

The door in the side entrance slammed hard. A large, sharp-faced shepherd dog jumped out into the yard, dragging a rattling chain behind it. The fat cat Anyuta flew up onto the woodpile in one leap. “Shh! – he hissed, raising his paw. “Please don’t sh-sh-shu-be able to!”

The dog barked angrily at Anyuta, took off up the hill at full speed and began to roll on the sand, raising thick columns of dust, then jumped up, shook himself off and rushed at his mother with a loud bark.

Mom jumped to the side.

- Back! It is forbidden! Go away! – she waved her hands.

- Jack! Tubo! To the leg! – a loud voice came from the entrance.

A fat man in sandals on his bare feet, with a smoking cigarette in his hand, waddled out into the yard. It was the tenant of the fourth floor - photographer Schmidt.

-What are you doing, Jack? A? – the fat man asked sternly and shook his thick finger. Jack wagged his tail guiltily. - What a fool! – the photographer laughed.

Feigning a yawn, Jack walked up to his owner, sat down and, clinking his chain, carefully scratched his neck with his hind paw.

“The weather is good today,” the fat man smiled welcomingly, turning to his mother. -Are you not going to the dacha? Now is the time to collect mushrooms and catch fish.

Mom looked at the fat man and the dog and said displeasedly:

– Again, Comrade Schmidt, you released her without a muzzle. After all, she is your real wolf. So he looks like he might bite someone.

– Are you talking about Jack? – the fat man was surprised. - Well, what are you talking about! My Jack won't touch a child. He is as quiet as a dove. Do you want to pet him?

Mom waved her hand.

- Well, all I have to do is pet the dogs. At home, dinner is getting cold, the rooms are not tidy, and I still can’t call the guys... And I don’t understand where they disappeared to. Ka-a-arik! Wa-a-ala! – she screamed again.

- And you caress Jack, ask him nicely. Tell him: “Come on, Jack, quickly find Karik and Valya.” He will find them instantly.

Schmidt leaned over to the dog and patted its neck.

– Will you find it, Jack?

Jack squealed quietly and suddenly jumped up and licked the photographer on the lips. The fat man recoiled, spat in disgust and wiped his lips with his sleeve. Mom laughed.

“You’re laughing in vain,” said Schmidt. He seems very offended. – My Jack is a magnificent bloodhound. Give him a sniff of something from Karik or Vali, and he will find them wherever they are. This is a prize-winning bloodhound. He follows in the footsteps of a person, like a locomotive on rails. Give him something: a guys toy, a shirt, a skullcap - and you will see for yourself what a wonderful tracker he is.

Genre: fairy tale Main characters: Karik, Valya, professor

The plot of the fantastic story for children “The Extraordinary Adventures of Karik and Valya” takes place in the world of insects that inhabit rivers, fields, lakes, trees and forests. Author Ian Larry uses a style that combines adventure and fantasy, thereby popularizing the science of entomology, which began to develop in the 1930s. The story tells young readers about the amazing and mysterious miniature world in which insects live, where a brutal battle for self-survival unfolds.

Brother and sister Karik and Valya, the main characters of the story, live near a forest and a lake in an ordinary high-rise building. The famous experienced entomologist Ivan Enotov lives nearby. One day, when the guys were visiting the professor, they saw and drank without permission an amazing solution that the professor came up with. In just a couple of seconds, the children became a couple of millimeters tall. Karik and his sister Valya became very tiny people that even a fly and an ordinary dragonfly seemed like a huge monster to them. On a dragonfly that flew into the professor's office, the brother and sister went on an extraordinary journey into the fantastic world of nature, which is invisible to the average person.

When the professor, by method, guessed everything and understood everything, he immediately went for the children. Approaching the lake, the professor set an identification mark by sticking a long stick into the ground with a red flag on it. A box with a hole for entry was left there; it contained his inventions and enlargement powder.

The professor, who soon found the children, went through a lot of adventures together, some of them quite dangerous, as they made their way to the hidden box. They were bitten by huge mosquitoes, ants and spiders. The unfortunate wanderers ate the milk of aphids, and rode the caterpillars like horses.

Thanks to the knowledge of Professor Enotov, everything ended well and the guys and the scientist became normal people again, and Karik and Valya began to study the life of plants and insects with pleasure. After all, learning is light; if the professor did not have the necessary knowledge, the unfortunate travelers might not have returned to the world of ordinary people.

A few words about the author

The book was written by Ian Larry. “The Extraordinary Adventures of Karik and Valya” is his most famous work. And although Larry began his writing career with serious stories and a novel about the social order, which raised themes of the development of human society, what he did best was the story about the fun adventures of young children in the world of insects.

The author's deep knowledge of entomology is clearly visible in literally every chapter of the story, even if you look only at their brief content. “The Extraordinary Adventures of Karik and Valya” was not created as a biology textbook, but from this book young readers will learn a lot of interesting and educational things about the life of insects. Moreover, the facts are presented so skillfully that they are perceived very easily and organically even by children of primary school age.

“The Extraordinary Adventures of Karik and Valya”: characteristics of the heroes

Throughout the story, we follow the adventures of the three main characters - young Karik, his sister Valya and professor Ivan Germogenovich Enotov. Karik is a very inquisitive boy. He sits with his adult friend for hours, listening to stories and asking many questions along the way. From early morning he is ready to fly back to the professor’s apartment to observe the next experiment. Karik is also a good brother. Finding himself in an unusual environment, he always boldly stands up for his sister, encourages her and takes care of her.

Valya also turns out to be a worthy comrade. She is not capricious, quickly pulls herself together even when she is scared, and often expresses constructive ideas.

Professor Enotov is a completely positive character. Without hesitation, he immediately rushes to search for the children. On a difficult journey, he serves as their guide and protector.

The author himself graduated from the Faculty of Biology, and subsequently from graduate school. Therefore, it is very interesting how the image of a scientist emerges. “The Extraordinary Adventures of Karik and Valya” instills in children not only an interest in science, but also respect for its figures.

Modern cartoon

Relatively not so long ago, Ian Larry's story came to life on the screen. The fact that the creators tried to bring the book’s concept to life as accurately as possible is clear even if you just look at its summary. “The Extraordinary Adventures of Karik and Valya” is a bright and cheerful cartoon that will appeal to both children and adults.

Readers' impressions

The extraordinary adventure of Karik and Valya has inspired more than one generation. Reviews from young readers indicate that the book captures their attention and awakens curiosity. The story serves as a kind of transition from children's fairy tales to more adult works. Many people say that this book grabs you from the very first lines and doesn’t let go until the end.

If you value high-quality literature and want to instill in your children a love of reading, and at the same time an interest in living nature, offer them a story about the adventures of two children in the microcosm. Or you can open this book yourself and, at least for a short time, return on the waves of its pages to the time of a carefree and bright childhood!

Year of writing: 1937

Genre: fairy tale

Main characters: Karik, Valya, Professor

Plot

The guys are on friendly terms with their neighbor in the country, the famous professor. One day, upon arriving at his laboratory, the children mistakenly drank an elixir that made them as small as elves. And on a dragonfly they flew away to the nearest meadow, which now seemed as big as a continent to the tiny children.

The professor, having discovered the mistake, also drank the elixir and rushed to the rescue of his little friends. In the thick grass there were various insects, caterpillars, grasshoppers - they all seemed like huge monsters to the little people.

They have to constantly fight for their lives, solve many problems, get food for themselves, in order to finally get to the professor’s laboratory and become normal people again.

Conclusion (my opinion): in these difficult tests, both the guys and Professor Enotov showed themselves to be worthy people, capable of acting in difficult situations without losing their heads. The book contains a lot of interesting and educational information about the life of insects.
